-
Recycling in Maumelle
Yes! If you want to continue sorting your materials in brown bags, that is fine. Simply put all of the brown bags inside your bin. Please do not place plastic bags (full or empty) in your blue bin. Plastic bags get tangled in machine gears at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) requiring the MRF to stop operations to remove the bags.
You may collect your recycling in plastic bags, but you must dump the recyclables out of the plastic bag into the bin and place the plastic bag in the garbage or take it to a Kroger Store or another participating grocery store for recycling.
-

Please refer to the information shown above under "Materials Accepted Curbside for Recycling."
-

Maumelle residents spoke and we listened. It took time to negotiate and to find a way we could start collecting more at curbside without increasing the community fees to offset the cost to pay an outside company.
-
Recycling in Maumelle
No. Just like the garbage cart, these recycling bins are the property of the City of Maumelle. Do not take them with you when you move. Each bin is assigned to a specific property using serial numbers.
-
Recycling in Maumelle
We don't have larger bins at the moment. We are trying to get a participation rate and to verify there will be a need for it.
-
Recycling in Maumelle
We do not accept glass because of employee safety (avoiding injury) and contamination issues (breakage within the collection vehicles can cause glass shards to end up in the other materials, which may cause the rejection of loads).
Historically, glass has been the smallest amount of recyclables collected, and there has been a significant decline in the last few years, as many bottlers have turned to plastic. Also, the glass markets have been and continue to be depressed, so economics are also a factor. Recycle America does not allow us to collect glass curbside and tip at their facility without incurring an additional cost.

All Maumelle Fire Department stations are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If your group or organization would like to tour our facilities, please contact Cindy Miller to make arrangements by calling 501-851-1337 ext. 200.
Usually, tours are conducted at Station 1 because there is a greater variety of apparatus to see. If your organization wishes to tour a station that is closer to your area, the Cindy can arrange the tour.
Tours can be conducted any time between 8 a.m. and 5p.m. on any day. Maumelle Fire Department personnel welcome visitors at any time during those hours if parents wish to bring their children to see the fire trucks. If you call to arrange a tour, please consider the fact that if we must respond to an emergency call, we may not be in the station at the arranged time. -

Our fire engines respond with at least 2 personnel and are often stationed closer to your address than the closest ambulance. All of our engines have EMTs or Paramedics who can arrive before an ambulance to begin patient care.
Our engines are equipped with basic medical gear and an automatic external defibrillator (AED), which may assist in certain types of cardiac arrest. By adding additional personnel on the scene, we can do a more efficient, safer job of caring for our patients. -

Maumelle Fire Department is a Civil Service department. This means that we follow the process outlined in the Arkansas Civil Service Law.

You should have at least one smoke detector in each bedroom, the hallway and at the top of all stairways. Smoke rises, so the best place to install a detector is on the ceiling or high on an inside wall approximately 6-8 inches below the ceiling. We recommend that you buy a battery-operated smoke detector that carries the Underwriter's Laboratories (UL) logo.
Newly constructed occupancies are required to have wired smoke detectors with battery backup that are all connected to sound simultaneously if one detector is activated. We recommend that you test your smoke detectors by pressing the test button monthly. If the detector fails to sound, replace the battery. Otherwise, we recommend that you replace all of your smoke detector batteries twice a year.
The best time to change your batteries is at the same time you set your clocks back and forth between Daylight Savings Time and Standard Time.

No. Open outdoor burning within the Maumelle city limits is regulated by ordinance. In an effort to ensure safe neighborhoods and help preserve clean air, residential burning of yard waste or trash is not allowed.

Not usually. Cats often climb trees to avoid perceived dangers that they encounter at the bottom of the tree. Given plenty of time for them to calm down, most cats climb down on their own without incident. You can speed the process up by leaving a can of their favorite food on the ground near the tree. Suprisingly, cats aren't as happy to be "rescued" as their owners and a cat with claws actually pose a danger to a firefighter who attempts to pluck it from its perch before the cat is ready.
