FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – December 31, 2025 Contact: Courtney Dunn, Community Engagement Director CDunn@maumelle.org | 501-851-2500 City of Maumelle Announces Special Election on ½-Cent Sales Tax Extension and Six Proposed Bond Projects Maumelle, Arkansas — The City of Maumelle will hold a special election on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, asking voters to consider extending the existing ½-cent sales tax for the purpose of funding key community improvement projects through the issuance of capital improvement bonds. This is not a new tax, but an extension of the current ½-cent sales tax that has supported infrastructure, public safety, and quality-of-life projects throughout Maumelle for many years. If approved by voters, the extension will allow the City to issue bonds to fund six proposed projects aimed at enhancing public safety, improving recreational facilities, expanding community amenities, and maintaining core infrastructure. Courtney Dunn, the city’s Community Engagement Director, said voters will consider seven questions on the ballot: Question 1 — Sales Tax Extension Voters will first decide whether to extend the existing ½-cent sales tax, which serves as the funding mechanism for the proposed bond projects. For bond projects to move forward, question 1 must pass. Questions 2–7 — Proposed Bond Projects If the tax extension passes, voters will then consider six individual projects, each presented as a separate question: -Citywide Road Improvements A multi-year initiative to repair, resurface, and improve roads across all areas of Maumelle, addressing long-term maintenance needs and enhancing transportation safety. -Center on the Lake Indoor Therapy Pool & Parking Expansion - Addition of an indoor therapy pool and expanded parking at the Center on the Lake to improve senior programming, member community access, and year-round aquatic opportunities at Maumelle Center on the Lake. -Police & Fire Department Training Facility Construction of a joint, modern training center to better prepare Maumelle’s first responders and improve emergency readiness. -Fire Station #3 Construction of a new fire station to support Maumelle’s growing population and improve emergency response times citywide. -Lake Valencia Improvements Enhancements to Lake Valencia, including shoreline stabilization, lighting, accessibility improvements, and public-use amenities. -AstroTurf at Sports Fields Installation of synthetic turf at heavily used city sports fields to improve safety, reduce weather related closures, and increase year-round playability. Dunn said the City of Maumelle is committed to ensuring residents have access to clear, timely and accurate information ahead of the election. “Leading up to the election day, Maumelle will host a series of public meetings, civic presentations and community discussions,” she said.
