RECYCLING
WHAT IS PICKED UP FOR CURBSIDE RECYCLING?
We pick up newspapers, plastic bottles, and aluminum cans. Please place your cans and newspapers in bin. You do not have to sort the items.
Please note we will pick up when it rains, but we cannot recycle wet newspaper, so you may want to wait until the next pick up to put out newspaper if it is raining
HOW DO I PARTICIPATE IN CURBSIDE RECYCLING?
Please call 851-2812 and request a recycle bin. We deliver those on Thursday.
WHERE CAN I RECYCLE OTHER ITEMS THAN THOSE PICKED UP ON CURBSIDE?
Everyone is welcome to bring their recyclables to the bins located at the Maumelle Transfer Station. There is no charge to recycle. The recycling hours are Monday through Thursday from 7am to 3:30pm, Friday from 7am to 5:30 pm and Saturday from 10am to 3:30pm. Resident's may recycle steel and aluminum cans, glass, plastics, plastic bags, corrugated cardboard, paste board, catalogs, newspaper, magazines, phonebooks, & paper/junk mail at this facility
* See Transfer Station below for details on drop off recycling
I CAN'T FIND ANYWHERE TO RECYCLE WET PAINT, WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?
We do not recycle wet paint. You can't simply toss dried paint into your trash can. To be acceptable for landfill, paint must be thoroughly dry. Please be sure that your paint is completely solidified. Liquid paints and stains can spill while awaiting collection or during the collection process; paint leaking into trucks and onto roadways poses tremendous cleanup challenges.
Suggested methods for drying it so we can accept it follows:
*For small amounts of paint you can:
- Leave the lid off the can and set it out to dry (Hint, leave the lids off the cans for pick-up so they can see the paint is dry and accept it.)
- Pour the paint out onto cardboard or newspaper in a thin layer and let dry
*For larger amounts you can:
- Give the paint to someone who can use it (i.e., friends & neighbors, recreation departments, theatre groups, housing assistance groups)
- Mix in equal parts of kitty litter, sand, saw dust, crushed corn cobs, or any other absorbent material
- An easy-to-use, nontoxic product called Waste Paint Hardener shortens the drying process for acrylic and latex paint in a matter of minutes. You can add this to just about any product and turn it into a solid. You can find this product in most local hardware/paint stores.
All residual/leftover paint must be hardened or dried. Any liquid or soft paint will be left as unacceptable by collection crews. Remove lids from cans, and put cans next to trash cart. Please call us at 851-2812 and notify us you will have paint cans.
