Building and Ground MaintenancePublic Works, Building Maintenance Division, has three employees including one (1) Supervisor and two (2) Operators. This division is responsible for all building maintenance and fixture maintenance for City Hall, Maumelle Senior Wellness Center, Maumelle Animal Shelter, Maumelle Police Dept., Maumelle Fire Dept., and the Public Works building. In addition, this division is responsible for the maintenance of all city owned street lights along Odom Blvd, at the Diamond Center, and Rolling Oaks Sport Complex. Since, the supervisor is a skilled carpenter; it saves the city a lot of money each year by custom wood work and remodeling projects being done “in house”. If they are not at other city offices working, they can usually be found working out of their wood shop.Public Works, Grounds Maintenance Division, has eleven employees including one (1) Supervisor and one (1) Lead man. This division is responsible for the maintenance of the city’s approximate 200 acres of open spaces, 38 miles of right of ways (including streets & ditches), weed control on 22 miles of City streets & ditches and the maintenance including mowing, edging and litter pick up along Maumelle Boulevard. In general, the Public Works Grounds Maintenance division has responsibility for maintaining the grounds of all City-owned property and rights-of-ways. It is responsible for the following tasks:
The Grounds Maintenance Division has a Mosquito Control program which provides spraying, and larviciding control for mosquitoes city wide from Spring through Fall. The city is divided in 3 routes (north, middle, and south) for mosquito spraying. Every Thursday night, during this season, a scheduled route is run. The schedule repeats until the season ends. During winter months (December – March), Grounds Maintenance Division performs preventive maintenance on lawn mowers and other small equipment. All maintenance on lawn mowers is done in house. By doing the preventive maintenance in house, it saves several thousands of dollars a year. There are times Grounds Maintenance Division is asked to cut trees or shrubs in medians or right-of-ways or move furniture for the different departments.
