February 16, 2011MAUMELLE TREE BOARD
The Maumelle Tree Board met Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Maumelle Community Center. Present were Dave Wahlfeld, Donna Meeks, and Karen Holliday. Dave called the meeting to order. A motion was made by Dave and seconded by Donna to approve the minutes of the December 2010 meeting. The motion carried. The board did not meet in January. February’s meeting was postponed a week due to snowy weather. Donna gave the treasurer’s report. The current balance is $1,883.81. Dave plans to donate $300 to purchase two trees for the Boulevard planting. A motion was made by Dave and seconded by Karen to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. Pete has received approval from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department for this year’s planting on Maumelle Boulevard. Dave called Bemis to confirm their bid amount for the project. Their bid is $1,935.00 for a total of twelve (12) trees, and will include planting and mulching the trees. Dave’s $300 donation will give us approximately $2,200 in total funds to help cover all costs of the project, plus retain some money in the checking account. Dave and Pete will coordinate with the city and with Bemis to implement the planting. Dave wants to get the trees in the ground by the middle of March. Dave took the Tree City USA recertification application to Jim Narey, Maumelle Planning Division. Jim will have the mayor sign it. He will then forward the recertification request to Patti with the Arkansas State Forestry Commission. In January, Dave began submitting his monthly tree information article to Tina at City Hall. She is putting the article on our website and also sending it to the Maumelle Monitor. January’s article featured the Red Oak, February’s article will feature the Red Maple, and March will be the Green Ash. These are the three species used for the Boulevard project. The next board meeting will be the second Wednesday in March, March 9, at 6:00 p.m. at the Maumelle Community Center. There being no further business, Dave adjourned the meeting at 7:15 p.m. |
